PhD Update!

Hey Guys,

First of all, I should apologise, because I haven’t posted anything for a long time, but you know sometimes life gets in the way…. I have to say that from all the challenges I faced, the one I’m working right now has been a bit of a struggle! But I’ll give you some context.

As you may be aware, I am doing a PhD on how host cities must go through a series of physical and social changes to stage the Olympic Games. Yet, for those changes to occur, property...

Event Strategic Management Series #1

Event Strategic Management Series #1

Hey Guys,

Today, I decided to start a new series of blog posts, which will be related to Event Strategic Management. This week, we will start with an introductory post, where I’ll provide you with one of the hundreds of explanations regarding what is Strategy and Strategic Management (SM), and the importance of utilising strategic management as a tool to improve your event and organisation. Then, I’ll have two/three different posts, where, in each, I’ll give you some of the possible theories to analyse the industry, market and your organisation, from...

Host City Contract Phase

Host City Contract Phase

Hey Guys,

Do you remember a post I wrote a couple of months ago, about the first part of the process to become the city that will host the Olympic Games? Well, I essentially told you about how typically the bidding process takes place.

Today, I’m going to explain the next step in the organisation of the Olympic Games. Once the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announces the winning city, the next step is for the Host City Contract (HCC) to be drafted and signed by a number of parties.

Briefly explained, the HCC...

The Great Japanese Disaster

The Great Japanese Disaster

Hey Guys,

Yesterday, while I was collecting secondary data for my PhD, one idea of a post came to mind. The idea was to explain a little bit of Japan’s historical context. More specifically, to explain what happened in one of the country’s worst day’s and how the result of it may have influenced the decision to host the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

March 11, 2011, a horrible day that destroyed many coastal areas of the country. It began with one of the biggest earthquakes on Earth, which caused a big tsunami,...

Formula 1 Portuguese Grand Prix – Event Analysis

Formula 1 Portuguese Grand Prix – Event Analysis

Hey Guys,

Today, I decided to write about an event I went to this weekend, the Formula 1 (F1) Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimão.

For some contextual information, Portugal hasn’t hosted an F1 Grand Prix since 1996 (Formula1, 2020). And even in 1996, the circuit used was in Estoril, near Lisbon. So, this was a new and exciting opportunity for Portugal and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, which ‘opened in the autumn of 2008‘ (Formula1, 2020).

The event took place in the weekend of the 23rd- 25th October 2020, included the F1 Grand...

Post-Corona Olympic Games

Post-Corona Olympic Games

Hey Guys,

So, a few months ago, I wrote a blog post about the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games postponement (Tokyo 2020 in 2021). And today I’m going to present you with a brief analysis of how the IOC and the Tokyo 2020 event organisation team are planning to stage this POST-CORONA Games edition.

Firstly, I think it’s quite evident that several operational aspects and methods of the Olympic Games and the whole event’s industry have been affected, because of the pandemic. As a result, of such uncertain times, this industry has been forced to...
